Founded in 1988, the Bernal Heights Democratic Club (BHDC) is a chartered Democratic club that organized to give the residents of Bernal Heights an effective voice in government through active participation in the electoral process. The mission of the club is to research issues and candidates in order to educate and mobilize the community through political activities, including community forums and slate card development and distribution.

Endorsements of candidates and issues reflect the overarching goal of the club, which is to maintain the economic and cultural diversity of the neighborhood by working to further economic and social justice for all residents.
